  • Suicide Prevention Day and R U OK?Day: Connecting Our Community

10 September is an important day for conversations about mental health, connection and suicide prevention, with both World Suicide Prevention Day and R U OK?Day taking place.

These days provide an opportunity to pause, check in with the people around us and remind our community that no one has to face difficult times alone. A simple conversation can be an important first step towards connecting someone with the support they need.

At Gladstone Mindcare, we’re marking the day by making extra mental health and wellbeing resources available at our Hub, along with some cupcakes to share with our community. 🧁

Our Administration & Referrals Officer, Bjay, is also visiting Rio Tinto’s Yarwun site to spend time with their peer support team, share information and talk about the local mental health and wellbeing supports available to employees and the wider Gladstone community.

While R U OK?Day encourages us to ask the question, checking in with someone doesn't have to happen on just one day of the year. Taking the time to genuinely listen, stay connected and let someone know that support is available can make a meaningful difference.

    Start the conversation

If you’re concerned about someone, take a moment to:

    • Ask how they’re really going
    • Listen without judgement
    • Connect them with support if they need it
    • Keep checking in and let them know you’re there

And remember, it’s just as important to check in with yourself.

Gladstone Mindcare is proud to support our local community by providing information, connection and referrals to help people find the right support at the right time.

If you’re looking for information or support, visit us at 147 Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. No appointment is required.

Together, we can help create a community where people feel connected, supported and comfortable reaching out.
